E-commerce and E-business are two very common terminologies which we go through very often nowadays. The world has advanced in each and every field through science and technology. And in this very field of business, the advancement lead to the advent of e-commerce and e-business. Generally, e-commerce is thought to be the same as e-business and these two are confused with each other, but in reality, these two are different terminologies. Electronic commerce, commonly known as e-commerce is just like an industry where the purchasing and selling of products and services is carried through any sort of electronic system such as the internet and other computer networks. But, when we talk about e-business, then we come to know that e-business is much more than just e-commerce.

We can call e-commerce as the subset of e-business strategy.

Whereas, e-business incorporates e-commerce and along with that, it also includes the front and back-office applications that collectively give rise to the engine for modern e-commerce.
  • E-business doesn’t limit to the e-commerce transactions but it moves many steps ahead and gives new meanings to the business using internet. E-business changes the old business strategies and with the aid of technology, provides the maximum customer value too. Though e-commerce is an extremely essential aspect of e-business but the overall strategy is surely just e-business.

 

We conclude by citing an example of a company. If we deal e-commerce then it would have the objective set as just to set up the company website, take on services like bulk SMS marketing services, and accept credit card payments or it would strive to sell products and services on time. But if e-business is to be discussed, then it would not only perform all these tasks but it would also try to re-structure and modernize the company’s business by implementing enterprise resource planning systems (ERP), management of relationship between clients and partners, supply chain management, data mining etc.
